The Community Foundation for Kingston & Area hosted a reception at the Baxter Arts Center in Bloomfield on June 20, 2024, to celebrate the ten agencies that received a combined total of $63,072 in grants from the Stark Family Fund. Among the recipients was the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation (TMHF), which was awarded a $10,000 grant for its “Stop the Bleed” project.
Established by the Stark Family in 2022, the Fund has provided $1.22 million in grants to support community initiatives. The grant for TMHF will go towards purchasing a tourniquet for the surgical department at Trenton Memorial Hospital (TMH). This crucial equipment, costing $14,144 and with a lifespan of approximately five years, will enhance the safety and efficiency of orthopedic surgeries by creating a bloodless surgical field, thereby reducing perioperative blood loss and improving recovery times.
Nearly 1,000 community members will directly benefit from the “Stop the Bleed” project, with an additional 2,000 benefiting indirectly. This initiative is part of TMHF’s broader fundraising efforts, which include acquiring 50 essential items for the hospital this year.
TMH, a cornerstone of the community since 1951, is the sole provider of cataract, dental, and cystoscopy services in the Quinte Health region.
