Quinte West, ON, August 14, 2025 – The annual John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic, held on August 8 at Oak Hills Golf Club, along with proceeds from the Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, brought together golfers, sponsors, and volunteers to raise $132,501.70 net in support of the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Emerge Stronger campaign. Funds will go toward enhancing
services and better equipment at Trenton Memorial Hospital.

Jessica & Ian Smylie, title sponsors and long-time supporters of the event, expressed their gratitude to the community:
“We are thrilled by the results of the John Smylie Memorial tournament. To net over $130,000 for the Emerge Stronger campaign is incredible and is a testament to both the charitable nature of
our community, and the fundraising prowess of the TMHF. We’d like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament, Patricia Guernsey for sponsoring the golf ball drop, Lindsay Butcher-Dodds and the TMHF team for their tireless work, Oak Hills for continuing to be amazing hosts, and all of the incredible volunteers who make the day possible.”

Lindsay Butcher Dodds, TMHF Executive Director, shared her appreciation:
“The John Smylie Golf Classic brought our community together like never before, from the historic helicopter ball drop to incredible generosity on the greens. Thanks to our sponsors, golfers, committee, volunteers and TMHF team, we raised vital funds for our Emerge Stronger campaign – supporting new equipment at TMH and the expansion of our ER to keep exceptional care close to home.”

Christina Charbonneau, TMHF Golf Committee Chair, shared:
“I am overwhelmed by the generosity and dedication of our sponsors, golfers, and volunteers in helping us achieve a record-breaking total at our annual John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic. I’m deeply passionate about the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation, and these funds raised will help make a real difference.”

In addition to the tournament, the day featured the popular Helicopter Golf Ball Drop, sponsored by Team Guernsey Real Estate and 1000 Islands Helicopter Tours, a sold-out raffle that saw
2,000 numbered golf balls descend from above. Golf Ball #1069, registered to Amanda Reid, landed just 23 cm from the target’s center to win the $5,000 grand prize. On the other hand, Golf Ball #486 won the Early Bird prize, a helicopter tour for two over the 1000 Islands in Kingston.
“I was SUPER excited because we just bought a new house, and this will go toward a new fence. It was perfect timing!” shared Amanda.
