QUINTE WEST ON. November 9, 2020: John MacDonald is a familiar voice in the Trenton community through his active involvement with the Golden Hawks OJHL team. But, today, John is seeking your support for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation Put Yourself in the Picture XRAY Campaign. As a former professional athlete, he has had and seen many injuries. He knows the importance of having a good XRAY with clear crisp images to show the physicians of any potential fractures. TMHF needs $500,000 for an XRAY and $208,000 for renovations to the current room. “I know the importance of having a well-equipped hospital. So, this year, I cannot think of a more worthy cause than supporting TMH’s X-Ray Campaign”, says John.
While John has had his share of breaks, and witnessed many amongst the Hawks players, it was a few years ago that he witnessed how important the XRAY can be for other diagnosis as well. He credits the XRAY for saving his wife Rosemary’s life, when it found her cancer diagnosis. The X-Ray equipment is most utilized diagnostic tool at TMH. Trenton does almost 19,000 X-Ray annually, and it is available 24/7/365. A new more efficient X-Ray will help to reduce your wait for a diagnosis because it will be faster. Radiologists can access images immediately to determine your symptoms are associated with a less serious, immediately treatable condition, or a more serious illness. X-Rays can rule out conditions such as pneumonia, cancer and heart failure, or identify what may be causing symptoms. Upgrading the current equipment demonstrates QHC’s ongoing commitment to boosting patient.
“The X-ray equipment at Trenton Memorial Hospital is at the end of its life and needs to be updated. The new equipment will be entirely digital, resulting in decreased radiation exposure for patients and better image quality. The automation of the new equipment will result in better workflow and a more ergonomic environment”. – Kerri Choffe, Director of Diagnostic Services, Quinte Health Care.
Klemencic Homes has kick-started the campaign, donating $350,000 from their recent Home Build for Health Care project. John says “Without donor support, from people like you and me, a hospital is just a building. You never know when you, or your loved one will need it”. Over the past five years, the TMH Foundation through community donations have helped to replace the CT Scanner, two of the Ultrasounds and another X-Ray as well.
Government taxes provide the operational funding for the hospitals to pay for staff, disposables, heat and hydro etc., but the capital medical equipment is funded through donations. The equipment is as good as can be funded by the community.
The TMH Foundation is dedicated to raising funds in support of the Trenton Memorial Hospital to ensure the medical staff have the medical equipment they need to provide quality health care whenever needed.
