Hole-in-One Worth $10,000 Lands at TMHF Golf Fundraiser

Quinte West, ON, November 06, 2024 – The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation (TMHF) celebrated another successful year at the 2024 John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic, held on September 20th at Oak Hills Golf Club. This year, the event not only raised over $106,000 net for the Emergency Department Expansion but also saw an exciting hole-in-one by participant Steve O’Connell.

The tournament’s highlight came when Steve O’Connell scored an impressive hole-in-one on Glen 8, winning a $10,000 prize generously sponsored by Lisa Thompson from RBC Wealth Management. O’Connell received his winnings yesterday in a celebratory cheque presentation at RBC, with TMHF’s Executive Director Lindsay Butcher Dodds, Development Coordinator Makayla Mior, and Christina Charbonneau, Chair of the John Smylie Memorial Golf Classic Committee, in attendance. Also, present were Lisa Thompson, Senior Portfolio Manager and Wealth Advisor at RBC Wealth Management; Janet Cluett, Administrative Assistant; Davis Beamish, Associate Wealth Advisor; and Saurav Arora, Associate, all representing RBC.

Lisa Thompson commented, “Over many years, we have enjoyed supporting and being sponsors for the annual Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation’s fundraising golf tournament.  This year that hole in one sponsorship was extra special.  We were thrilled to have a winner on our hole-in-one sponsorship! A special congratulations goes out to Steve O’Connell on his big win!”

This year’s tournament saw the support of over 220 golfers, 50 volunteers, and title sponsor Smylie’s Your Independent Grocer. The annual tournament, named in memory of local community stalwart John Smylie, not only serves as a tribute, but also as a crucial fundraiser for Trenton Memorial Hospital.
